Vladimir Badikov:
“I never stage my photos. Life does that for me better than any stage manager or lighting director. My task is to record, not to gloss over. For me, photography is an art of seeing something others would easily overlook. Something that requires a second, more focused glance. Something that jumps at you out of a familiar pattern...”
Vladimir Badikov was born in 1969 in Simferopol, Crimea. He worked as a photographer and cameraman covering news first for the local Crimean TV, and then for two major Russian broadcasting companies – Channel One and NTV. Traveling extensively on journalistic assignments, he filmed numerous news features and documentaries in over 50 countries. His photographs appeared in print and in on-line editions of Ogoniok, Snob, Afisha, Obshaya Gazeta, and other Russian periodicals. His regular contributions to gothamist.com, and kujaja.com earned him recognition and praise from Street Photography USA. His breathtaking images of open heart surgery at Bakulev’s Center of Cardiovascular Surgery in Moscow were used to illustrate two monographs: The Heart Rhythm of His Life: A Biography of Heart Surgeon Vladimir Podzolkov (BCCVS, 2008) and Heart of a Child: A Comprehensive Guide to Parents on how to Deal with a Child’s Congenital Heart Disorder (The Foundation of Andrew the Apostle, 2011).
